Homework Folders (Plastic Folder in sTAR bINDER)
I will be sending a Homework Folder home with your child on Friday's. Your child will have until the next Friday to complete all the work and return it to school in the same folder. Please have your child complete the assignments at his/her own pace. Also, please make sure your child is completing this work in their best handwriting.
Reading and Math Homework
Reading:
- Read a story each night to your child (5 to 10 minutes minimum or 1-2
stories.)
- Record nightly reading in your child's Reading log located in their STAR
Binder. These folders will be collected and checked on Mondays or the first
day of the school week. Each child should be logging at least 40 minutes of
reading a week. Our school Book-It Program begins in October, we use
these logs to reward the students with a free personal pan pizza. Students
should read 15-20 books a month to qualify for this prize.
- Practice writing your first and last name correctly (using an Uppercase letter
at the beginning and lowercase letters for the rest of your name).
Math:
- Review Numbers 0-120.
- Practice counting and writing your numbers to 120 +.
- Adding/Subtracting numbers to 20.
- Rocket Math (Weekly sheets) memorizing addition facts
Spelling:
- I will be sending home spelling words on Friday along with your child's
Homework packet.
- You may choose how your child studies for the test. We test on Friday
mornings. Some parents have them write their words each night. Others
give their kids an oral tests each night and then have their kids practice the
words they miss. I have also included in the STAR Binder a list of strategies
to help with spelling words. Please refer to it for some great ideas to try
with your child.
